What to Expect/Schedules by Subject Areas & Grade Level

The Augusta Canal provides complete, standards-based lesson plans for students from pre-K to high school. Lessons include pre- and post-visit classroom activities and are tied to the latest Georgia and South Carolina educational performance standards in history, geography, economics, language arts, science and math.

All Grades Social Studies/History
9:45-9:50 Welcome/Arrival at Augusta Canal Interpretive Center, Enterprise Mill
10:00-10:15 Augusta Canal film in IC theatre
10:15-10:45 Interpretive Center History Activity
10:45-11:30 Boat Tour on the Augusta Canal
11:30-12:00 Lunch in courtyard pavilion, restroom break
12:00-12:30 Collaborative activity, gift shop visit
LESSON PLANS and ACTIVITIES

Science/Math
Lessons focus on environment, natural resources, biology, and applied math.
FEE: With Eco-Active Boat ride-$10 per student. Without Boat-$4 per student

K-2nd Science
Begins at Interpretive Center, Enterprise Mill

9:55-10:25 Heritage Area Discovery Walk
10:30-11:00 Discovery Learning Stations in our new classroom
11:00-11:45 Lunch in the courtyard pavilion, restroom break
11:45-12:30 Collaborative activity, gift shop visit
12:30-1:15 Departure or Eco-Active boat ride*

3rd-5th Science
Begins at the Lake Olmstead Bulkhead Gates parking lot
9:45-9:50 Arrival/welcome
10:00-10:45 Heritage Area Discovery Walk
10:45-11:00 Travel back to the Interpretive Center
11:00-11:45 Lunch in courtyard pavilion, restroom break
11:45-12:30 Cotton Room activity or collaborative courtyard activity, gift shop visit
12:30-1:15 Departure or Eco-Active boat ride*
*If the boat option is selected

6th-12th Science
9:45-9:50 Welcome/Arrival at Bulkhead Gates parking lot
10:00- 11:30 Heritage Area Discovery Walk and Field Lab
11:30-11:45 Travel back to the Interpretive Center
11:45-12:30 Cotton Room Activity, gift shop visit

*(Students may bring sack lunches to eat on boat) *If the boat option is selected; if not students may picnic in courtyard pavilion

Combo History/Science
Lessons focus on Industrial Revolution, Fall Line geography and environment, both natural and man-made.
FEE: $11 per student

Size of groups

Minimum group size is 20.

Fees vary by type of program selected and range from $7 to $11.
See your reservation request form for details.

Chaperones. 1 chaperone free per 5 students. Additional adults pay student rate.
Bus drivers may accompany on boats on a space-available basis.
